{"id":2,"date":"2017-09-25T15:44:39","date_gmt":"2017-09-25T15:44:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/rid.hamilton.edu\/campus-of-the-future\/?page_id=2"},"modified":"2019-09-04T08:21:30","modified_gmt":"2019-09-04T12:21:30","slug":"about","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/rid.hamilton.edu\/campus-of-the-future\/about\/","title":{"rendered":"About"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>[vc_row row_height_percent=&#8221;1&#8243; overlay_alpha=&#8221;50&#8243; gutter_size=&#8221;2&#8243; column_width_percent=&#8221;100&#8243; shift_y=&#8221;0&#8243; z_index=&#8221;0&#8243;][vc_column][vc_column_text text_lead=&#8221;yes&#8221;]<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In 2017, Hamilton College\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hamilton.edu\/lits\">Library &amp; Information Technology Services<\/a> (LITS), and in particular the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hamilton.edu\/offices\/lits\/research-instructional-design\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Research and Instructional Design Team<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (R&amp;ID),\u00a0 participated\u00a0 in the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Building the Campus of the Future: 3D Technologies in Academe <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">EDUCAUSE\/HP research project. With an international set of leading institutions, including Brown University, Case Western University, Dartmouth College, Duke Medical School, Florida International University, Galludet University, Harvard Graduate School of Education, Center for Research and Interdisciplinarity, Lehigh University, MIT, Princeton, Stanford University Design School, Syracuse University Newhouse, Glasgow School of Art, University of San Diego, and Yale University, Hamilton College\u2019s involvement in this research project resulted in the R&amp;ID Team being seen as a leader in digital innovations in higher education.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.educause.edu\/ecar\/research-publications\/learning-in-three-dimensions-report-on-the-educause-hp-campus-of-the-future-project\/executive-summary-key-findings-acknowledgments\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">2018 EDUCAUSE report<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, this initiative sought to identify the pedagogically innovative digital modalities that resulted in significant improvements in the areas of learning and research outcomes, collaborative research,\u00a0 and student engagement . Among the criteria for this research project were:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To utilize the provided technology (which includes an HP Sprout Pro G2, HP zWorkstation, HP DreamColor Studio Display, HTC VIVE, HP 3D Structured Light Scanner ProS3, HP Automatic Turntable, and Dremel 3D40) to conduct an active exploration of 3D technologies<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To include support staff (either instructional designer(s) or staff from the campus center for teaching and learning) to assist with the exploration;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To include graduate and\/or undergraduate students in the exploration;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To compose a research report, due spring 2018;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To participate in three to four project conference calls to share ideas, confer, and to coordinate on the project;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(optional) To participate in EDUCAUSE Learning Initiative 2018 meeting and the annual EDUCAUSE Annual Conference in 2018.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With an enrollment of 1,850 students and a student-faculty ratio of 9-1, and the R&amp;ID Team\u2019s dedicated mission to \u201c<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">empower the Hamilton community to use information and technologies to engage in intellectual exploration, make informed decisions, and create and share knowledge,<\/span>\u201d<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Hamilton College was an ideal environment to explore the use of 3D technologies within the small liberal arts context.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The R&amp;ID Team saw this HP EDUCAUSE\u00a0 research project as a unique opportunity to experiment with 3D technologies throughout the liberal arts curriculum. Equally, the HP EDUCAUSE research project generated new types of faculty engagement and collaboration with the R&amp;ID Team that centered on innovative pedagogical approaches that directly influenced how\u00a0 students learn and thrive in this digital era of the 21st century.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Today in 2019, Hamilton College is ever more dedicated to student learning and fluencies across the disciplines, and in particular to enabling students to understand, communicate, and work effectively in an increasingly digital world.\u00a0 In many ways, HP EDUCAUSE vision of a \u201cCampus of the Future\u201d is already here and now at Hamilton College with its visionary \u201cDigital Hamilton\u201d initiatives campus-wide. The R&amp;ID Team hopes that our active participation in this project, as well as these inspired 3D technology-focused projects, inspires faculty and students throughout the world to explore the digital dimension of teaching , learning, and research within a liberal arts framework.
